CLINICAL SERVICES

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides comprehensive, evidence-based surgical care for a wide spectrum of maxillofacial conditions, ensuring restoration of function, esthetics, and overall quality of life. Clinical services are delivered through well-equipped outpatient clinics, minor operation theatre, and major operation theatre, adhering to strict sterilization protocols, patient safety standards, and ethical surgical practices.

Major Surgical Procedures

  • Orthognathic Surgery: Comprehensive surgical correction of dento-facial deformities including maxillary and mandibular discrepancies to improve facial esthetics, occlusion, speech, mastication, and overall functional rehabilitation.
  • Management of Maxillofacial Pathologies: Surgical enucleation, excision, and management of odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts and tumors, with appropriate reconstruction and rehabilitation.

  • Tumor Resection and Reconstruction: Surgical management of benign and malignant lesions involving the maxillofacial region, including resection and reconstruction using contemporary fixation systems to restore anatomical form and function.
  • Maxillofacial Trauma Management: Emergency and definitive surgical management of facial injuries including mandibular fractures, midface fractures, dento-alveolar injuries, and soft tissue trauma, ensuring timely intervention and functional recovery.

Minor Surgical Procedures

  • Surgical removal of impacted teeth, including third molars, impacted canines, and supernumerary teeth, using atraumatic surgical techniques.
  • Surgical exposure of impacted teeth to facilitate orthodontic alignment and functional occlusion.
  • Incisional and excisional biopsy procedures for histopathological diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial lesions.
  • Minor pre-prosthetic surgical procedures to facilitate prosthetic rehabilitation.

Emergency and Trauma Care

The department provides prompt and effective emergency surgical care for maxillofacial trauma cases, including stabilization, definitive fracture management, and postoperative rehabilitation, in coordination with emergency medicine and other medical specialties.

Comprehensive Patient Care Approach

  • Thorough clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning using advanced diagnostic aids and radiographic imaging.
  • Preoperative patient evaluation, counseling, and informed consent ensuring patient awareness and safety.
  • Surgical management following standard aseptic protocols and evidence-based surgical techniques.
  • Postoperative care including pain management, infection control, wound care, and regular follow-up for optimal healing and outcome assessment.

The department actively collaborates with other dental and medical specialties including Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Oral Pathology, ENT, Plastic Surgery, and Neuorosurgery to ensure holistic and multidisciplinary patient care.
